it means man could be free but as he goes on throug life chain after chain is attach to him...they come from his cicumstances....his economy...his family.....his nationality....the race he belongs....even his own personality....his destiney is mostly influenced by his own personality ,his economy and other people actions.
I think it means that all humans our free however they are going to come across people and things that may want to control them however its down to them what they want to make in life wiether they want to obey orders or not.
When a human is born, he is thought to believe that the society that he is surrounded by allows you liberty and motivates you to pursue your dreams. But the truth of the matter is that none of it is true and the society really oppresses you to the extreme.
I think Rousseau is saying man should be free. but society will not let us; were bound to it. there is rules and laws we have to follow all through our lives.
I think it means that humans have the right to be free and to do as they please but are always being stopped and get told what to do. I also think that she is saying that it's impossible to be as free as you want to be, anywhere you go you wont be left alone to do what you want because she refers it to as 'and is everywhere in chains' i feel that word everywhere replects on that you will not find a place that you will be free, theres always distractions and influences along the way.
Life is free but other can try and control what they do even if they are sorry ect . Also people will try to make you make decisions you dont want to make. Putting them self first
i think that this says that when every human is bourn they are bourn into a free world, but in society when they are truley bourn the chains of society pull them down and push them into line where they must follow strict rules and laws :)
